Framing Options
Once you’ve selected your photographic print from the galleries shopping cart, you’ll be offered the following three framing options:
- Print Only
- Print Mounted and Matted
- Print Framed
Fine Art Print Only
Ordering just the print is the least expensive option, but one that should be carefully considered. Without glass or lamination your image is extremely vulnerable to damage until adequately framed. Additionally many framers are ill equipped to properly mount a pigment ink print.
When choosing this option make sure your framer follows archival framing procedures by using only ph neutral acid free materials for mounting and matting. Further make sure they do not use heat to adhere the photograph to a mounting substrate. Finally, confirm your framer’s liability in case of damage to the image.
Fine Art Print Mounted and Matted
With this option Doug Remien Photography follows archival guidelines by mounting your photograph on acid free foam core, utilizing a pressure sensitive, ph neutral acid free adhesive. The image is then over matted with two off-white 100% museum quality rag mats. Please note, the shopping cart will list sizes available as print size. The actual size will be larger to reflect the matted border surrounding the photograph.
Fine Art Print Framed
With this choice the same archival mounting procedures are followed as option two above. In place of a rag mat however, an off-white linen liner (more commonly associated with fine oil paintings) is chosen to create an elegant inner frame bordering the photograph. The presentation is completed with a hardwood frame featuring a mahogany finish. See example below.
As seen in the photo, glass is not used in the framing procedure. As a superior alternative to glass, an archival exhibition quality lamination is mounted to the photograph. As with UV glass, the image is protected from 97% of harmful ultraviolet light. Additionally this method shields the photograph from humidity and airborne pollutants, as well as rendering it more resistant to abrasion. It’s easily cleaned with a feather duster or water and a soft cloth. More importantly, from a pragmatic view, the laminate finish provides a luster surface eliminating glare while maximizing your visual experience. Doug Remien has been framing with this method exclusively for the last eight years and is confident you’ll be completely satisfied.
Prints from all of these options come signed and numbered along with a description of the process used, and story of the image.
